Jack & Bobby, a WB television drama, premiered in September 2004 just after the heyday of WB’s successful TV run of smart dramas for younger people. Dawson’s Creek and Buffy the Vampire Slayer had it’s finale the year before that and Felicity the year before those two shows. Perhaps that is why no one paid attention to the very under-watched and under-appreciated Jack & Bobby which lasted only one season. The TV drama starred Logan Lerman (who stars in this fall’s movie adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Matt Long as his older brother Jack, and Christine Lahti as their mother. The show also includes Mad Men stars Jessica Paré, John Slattery, and a young handsome pre-movie star Bradley Cooper. Jack & Bobby takes place in the future and is about two brothers living in a college town with their hippie professor mother; the brothers mirror the other famous Jack and Bobby (Kennedy). Bobby grows up to become the President (the show fast forwards to future-documentary style interviews of the president’s close friends and future wife) and Jack dies young. The show is Dawson’s Creek meets The West Wing meets Sisters—it had a great cast, and a good story. It’s not too late to watch it on iTunes, Amazon, or free on the WB website. Must see TV indeed.
