Photos: The Best of the 2013 Met Gala
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala, sponsored by Moda Operandi and celebrating the new exhibit “Punk: Chaos to Couture,” seemed to present quite the conundrum to the celebrities and bold-facers in attendance Monday night. To embrace the evening’s theme whole-heartedly or to play it safe? The results were, well, mixed. There were fewer mohawks than you might have expected, save for Sarah Jessica Parker’s valiant Philip Treacy headpiece. A disappointing number of piercings, too—why was no one brave enough to go for a full-on septum ring (at least Karen Elson gave a nod with a fake one)? And some women appeared to have confused the high fashion event with a prosaic awards ceremony (sorry, Uma, that golden statuette will have to come some other night). But one way or another, everyone managed to get punk’d, err, punked.
