Where princes and presidents once played, you and I can now contemplate world peace: Sunnylands—the Rancho Mirage, California, estate of media magnate Walter Annenberg and his wife, Leonore—opens to the public this month. The 25,000-square-foot house, by midcentury-modernist A. Quincy Jones, is surrounded by a desert garden designed by James Burnett. Meanwhile, works by Rodin and others are displayed in an interior by Billy Haines and Ted Graber. The setting, along with a program of performances and films, will conjure Sunnylands’s star-studded history.
