Sotheby’s most recent auction had a playful twist.

What: A cocktail party in celebration of Sotheby’s new auction of Important Jewels, which opens today for bidding. (W’s Jewelry and Accessories Director Claudia Mata shares her 10 favorite pieces here, if you’re ready to shop.)

When: Tuesday, February 3rd

Where: Sotheby’s Auction House in New York City

Who: Mata was joined by Sotheby’s Vice President, Sales Director of Jewelry Frank Everett; jewelry designer Monique Péan; Instagram style star Pari Ehsan; and other gem aficionados.

Why: It’s rare that party goers are not only allowed to touch but encouraged to try on a necklace valued at $70,000, or a ring set estimated to sell for $20,000. So, of course, it was a full, fashionable house.
