Selena Gomez Adheres to Theme Quite Admirably in Oscar De La Renta
The actress and pop star-turned-executive producer fêtes her new Netflix series in a playful all-orange look.
Selena Gomez‘s latest project, 13 Reasons Why, finds the actress and musician not center stage, but rather behind the scenes. As she told the New York Times in a recent story, he first encountered the book that inspired the show on the recommendation of her mother, who happened to pick it up in Barnes & Noble in 2008 — and though Gomez and her mother had initially optioned film rights with the idea that Gomez might star, nearly 10 years on, a different project has emerged. For the upcoming Netflix limited series, Gomez ceded leading lady status to newcomer Katherine Langford; instead of taking the starring role, Gomez opted for a behind-the-scenes part as executive producer, pulling the strings and making it all happen.
But Gomez is still staking claim to the spotlight on the red carpet, appearing at the 13 Reasons Why premiere in a burnt-orange Oscar de la Renta dress — a sartorial win that comes as no surprise, considering the actress is a noted fan of everything from Dior to Versace and is part of Stuart Vevers’s Coach It girl crowd.
Who: Selena Gomez.
When: Thursday, March 30.
Where: The premiere of 13 Reasons Why, which Gomez executive produced, in Los Angeles, California.
What: A burnt-orange Oscar de la Renta strapless minidress with ombre orange earrings, blush-colored shoes, and a swipe of orange eyeshadow.
Why: Gomez manages to adhere to an all-orange color scheme without looking like a goldfish. Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, the designers behind both Oscar de la Renta and Monse, showed a dizzying array of bright colors on their Fall 2017 runway. This look first showed with a pair of coordinating metallic orange pumps; Gomez opts instead to stick with the monochrome look with a pair of earrings with ombre baubles and matching eyeshadow. For contrast, she goes with royal blue nails — the complementary colors a playful accent to an already fun and carefree look.
