Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez may be living one of the greatest love sagas of their still young generation. Ever since the pair first got together — at least officially — in 2011, their relationship has been a series of swerves and turns, keeping fans gasping while following along. Now, according to the latest rumors, that ride has been stalled, at least temporarily.
Following their October reconciliation, Bieber and Gomez have put their relationship on hold. While neither one has publicly announced as much, a source close to the couple tells E! News that “they were having a lot of little disagreements recently, and one fight in particular blew up and caused them to decide to ‘break up.’ However, they’ve been in contact the entire time, and their feelings for each other have not changed.” It’s not worth losing hope just yet, though, as the unnamed person has reason to believe that the on-again, off-again couple will make up in no time. “They will absolutely get back together and they are not over, but they both need some time away from each other,” the source says.
It was just last Thursday that Gomez showed her love for Bieber in a public setting. The singer posted a birthday tribute to him on Instagram, with a photo of herself pointing to a Polaroid of Bieber and the caption, “March 1, 1994 someone I know that happens to be super cool was born. Boom.”
While Gomez is often private about her relationships — including her last one with the Weeknd — she addressed her feelings for Bieber after her breakup with Abel Tesfaye, telling Billboard, “I’m 25. I’m not 18, or 19, or 20. I cherish people who have really impacted my life. So maybe before, it could have been forcing something that wasn’t right. But that doesn’t mean caring for someone ever goes away.”
No doubt it’s difficult to imagine the weight that living life in the public eye places on a relationship. That’s even more compounded when there’s already doubt, as Gomez’ mother, Mandy Teefey, has gone on public record expressing, of her decision to get back together with Bieber. She told Gossip Cop she was “not happy” the pair were back together, adding, “I do not control her the way it has been portrayed. Selena is an adult and can make her own choices.”
A source close to them confirmed as much to People, saying, “Selena’s mom is still not happy about Justin. It’s definitely causing some family conflicts. It’s been hard on Selena. She really believes Justin has changed and wishes her family would trust her.” A grown woman who can’t convince her parents that she’s picked the right partner? Sometimes, stars really are just like us.
