Prada’s new line, Made in…, draws on both its jetset image and its roots as a family business.
Prada’s new line, Made in…, draws on both its jetset image and its roots as a family business. The project takes its inspiration from company founder Mario Prada (Miuccia’s grandfather), who traveled the globe to source exotic materials and far-flung artisans. Following his lead, the fashion house is collaborating with craftsmen all over the planet to produce designs that utilize native materials and techniques. Kilts from centuries-old mills get the Made in Scotland label; flats, bags, and clothing (left) embellished with traditional Indian embroidery are Made in India; Made in Peru consists of alpaca knits; and jeans custom-made by Dova, the world’s foremost denim manufacturer, bear the Made in Japan label (at Prada; from $450).
