It’s been four decades since Truman Capote’s Black and White Ball, but now that the Plaza hotel’s $400 million renovation is complete, its newly restored neoclassical ballroom is poised to once again become the city’s most desirable party space. Even before the official opening in January, Chanel will take over the room for a star-studded celebration of its new diamond jewelry collection, and Trudie Styler and Sting have already booked it for their 15th annual Rainforest Foundation Fund Benefit gala in May. As a nod to the ironically downscale dishes served at Capote’s ball, the revamped menu will include chicken hash with sherry and spaghetti Bolognese.
