Olivia Bee: Generation W
Like pretty much everyone of her generation, the 19-year-old photographer Olivia Bee has thoroughly chronicled her teenage years. The difference is that the Portland, Oregon, native captures her youthful misadventures with unusual potency in images that elicit instant nostalgia. “I’m attracted to the idea of looking back,” Bee says. “I think that’s a universal experience.” Less universal is being commissioned, at age 15, to shoot an ad for Converse. Her portfolio now includes portraits (the New York Times Magazine) and fashion (Hermès, Roger Vivier). “My awkward phase is well documented on an old Flickr page,” she confesses. “I don’t show it to anyone.”
