While on assignment for Life magazine, shooting backstage during Milan Fashion Week in the fall of 2009, Brooklyn-based photographer Gabrielle Revere was struck by a full-lipped, gap-toothed face with wide eyes. Revere could not stop photographing the model – a then 15-year-old Lindsey Wixson from Wichita, Kansas, who it turns out was walking in her first season of shows as exclusives at Miu Miu and Prada. “She was so unlike the other girls,” says Revere. “I could tell upon meeting her for the very first time that she was a star on the rise.”

Six months later, when Life asked Revere to work on a second portfolio during the fall 2010 fashion week season, Revere decided the series would focus solely on the model who had her completely mesmerized one fashion season before. The result is over 10,000 portraits of Wixson, of which only 36 were seen in Life. That is, until now. This week, Sotheby’s New York debuts a selection of photos from the time Revere spent with Wixson, shadowing her from castings to fittings and the runway. Having acted as the teenager’s guardian during the February shows, Revere says that she and Wixson remain close friends. “I Remain, You Desire” is a selection of ten photographs that will be on display through September 21.
