Michelle Monaghan‘s Hulu series, The Path with Aaron Paul, returned for a second season earlier this year. And though the Emmys are still months away — currently slated for a September 2017 prizegiving — the industry is already starting to think about frontrunners for the Oscars of television. Over the weekend, Deadline hosted a stacked program highlighting “The Contenders,” a spiritual sibling to its annual Academy Awards event of the same name, which celebrates the most Emmy-ready series. It featured such beloved actors and showrunners as Issa Rae of Insecure and Tracee Ellis Ross of Black-ish, as well as cast members from hotly anticipated series premiering this year like the Neil Gaiman adaptation American Gods and the Margaret Atwood adaptation The Handmaid’s Tale.

Monaghan and Paul both made appearances in support of The Path, twinning in grey suits with white tops. The series has yet to break into Emmys consideration, but it’s been a part of the conversation since its debut in 2016. More importantly, Monaghan has always been a part of the red carpet conversation — and her low-key weekend look, a Gabriela Hearst suit paired with a white turtleneck, echoed the look of her co-star and downtown intellect Fran Lebowitz all at once.

Who: Michelle Monaghan.

When: Sunday, April 9.

Where: Deadline’s The Contenders event in Hollywood, California.

What: A grey suit with a subtle plaid motif by Gabriela Hearst from the Fall 2017 collection paired with an ivory turtleneck and a gold locket.

Why: Grey suiting never looked so good. Monaghan joins a long lineage of ladies rocking turtlenecks and suits — from Diane Keaton’s Annie Hall to New York intellect Fran Lebowitz to Twiggy and Audrey Hepburn — and offers her own contemporary take. Sleek tailoring and an equally sleek hair style pair with a gold necklace as an accent. While co-star Aaron Paul also opted for a grey suit and white shirt, it’s Monaghan who really won the impromptu contest of who wore it better.
