PARTIES

Kors Light

By the time the Paris collections roll around, most of the fashion circus is pooped. Trust Michael Kors to cheer everyone up with a bash celebrating his new rue Saint-Honoré boutique and his 30th anniversary. What were the highlights? The designer fills us in.

Who: “Models Isabeli Fontana, Karolina Kurkova, Carmen Kass, Hilary Rhoda, Anja Rubik, Natasha Poly, Joan Smalls, and Arizona Muse. I’ve known some of them since they were 15! Also Mary J Blige and Jennifer Hudson, who are both clients.”

What: “A sit-down dinner for around 200 hosted by U.S. Ambassador Charles Rivkin and his wife, Susan Tolson, who coincidentally was celebrating her birthday. It was really a thank-you to all the people who bring the clothes to life.”

When: “March 7.”

Where: “At the ambassador’s home on rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. You walk through the entrance, and you’re suddenly in this incredibly majestic, very French residence. The gardens are just spectacular. We went for a totally transparent tent so you felt like you were outside.”

Why: “To breathe energy into the week. I know when I’m traveling there’s nothing nicer than the old cliché of the home-cooked meal. If you can’t stop over at your friend’s house, the ambassador’s residence is a pretty nice substitute.”

Crashers: “When the party is in a government building, crashing is tough. And as far as I know, there are no Real Housewives of Paris.”

Person you wish had crashed: “If Lady Gaga had turned up, she could have crashed. That would have been good.”

Best moment of the night: “Mary J Blige’s performance. She went from singing ‘Ne Me Quitte Pas’ a cappella straight into ‘Stairway to Heaven.’ By the time she finished that song, she’d out-Planted Robert Plant.”

Fancy footwear: “Whenever I know there are going to be a lot of models present, I wear my Cuban heeled boots.”

Hangover quotient: “I was pretty fresh the next day. I think I might have had a slice of bacon with my breakfast to absorb the champagne.”
