Lady Gaga’s A Star Is Born Premiere Dress Was an Homage to Barbra Streisand
First, she conquered the music world, and now Lady Gaga is proving she’s ready to be a movie star.
The 32-year-old singer’s red-carpet look on Monday night at the A Star Is Born premiere was that of a leading lady: a metallic Givenchy Haute Couture gown, accented with a lace cape and paired with Bulgari jewelry. With a shimmering silver eye shadow, a classic red lipstick, and a sleek hairstyle, Gaga was a portrait of Hollywood glam.
But Gaga’s look had even more significance. She stars in the third remake of the original, 1937 A Star Is Born, so it’s only natural that she would pay homage to the past. In a way, she tipped her hat to Barbra Streisand, who played the leading role of musical ingenue in the 1976 version of the film. Streisand sported a dress similar to Gaga’s in the movie, which she designed herself. The dress is worn in the scene where Streisand’s character is accepting her Grammy award. Gaga’s Bulgari choker was also reminiscent of Streisand’s neck accessory in the 1976 movie.
While Gaga’s dress garnered a ton of attention, she made sure the movie was still the key focus here, teasing a new single, “Is That Alright?” on Twitter last night. In a minute-long trailer, Gaga previewed the piano ballad ahead of the A Star Is Born’s release.
