Kraft-o-matic

Ahead of their time both musically and artistically, Kraftwerk has inspired generations of musicians, designers and artists— from Dior’s newest couturier Raf Simons to artist Thomas Demand to bands as varied as Human League, Depeche Mode, New Order and Afrika Bambaata & The Soul Sonic Force, whose “Planet Rock” was one of the earliest hip-hop hits. They’ve also spawned tributes, not all of them high-minded. For these check out Señor Coconut, who reworks Kraftwerk songs as Latin dance numbers, and of course, SNL’s Sprockets.
