KEEPING UP

Kim Kardashian Has Officially Introduced the “Fashion Tail”

Somehow—perhaps thanks to all of those Trump comments—it didn’t get the attention it deserved on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

On Monday, Kim Kardashian appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where she told the host, among other things, that she received the phone call from Donald Trump to discuss pardoning the prisoner Alice Marie Johnson while she was naked, in preparation for a shoot with the photographer Steven Klein. Oh, and she also casually sparked a controversy by remarking that she has “nothing bad to say about the president.”

The sun may have had yet to set, but that was in fact just one of the head-turning appearances Kardashian would make that day, which also saw her show up on the streets of Los Angeles in what was one of her strangest ensembles yet—even though it was in fact the same one that she wore on air next to Kimmel. Whereas her tank top, velvet Lisa Marie Fernandez leggings, reflective sunglasses from the Rihanna Dior Collection, Yeezy Season 6 black optic PVC heels, and new bob haircut that she debuted over the weekend (only to announce she regretted it just 48 hours later), appeared perfectly normal (or normal enough for a Kardashian) onscreen, though, when Kardashian was on her feet, the outfit gave her the appearance that she was wearing, well, a tail.

A closer look at more snapshots of Kardashian, however, proves that her top was simply occasionally misbehaving. When set free from between her legs, the tail turned out to be attached to the front of a cropped shirt rather than a leotard. (Not that a front-facing, ankle-skimming tail attached to an asymmetrical crop top is exactly any less odd.)

Perhaps Kardashian was simply throwing us a bone, making sure there would be at least one headline on a day with a news cycle slow enough to be dominated by the phrase “Bigfoot erotica.” Or perhaps she was merely, as usual, repping husband Kanye West’s brand. A credit for the tank top has yet to widely circulate, but it’s certainly plausible that it’s another one of the cropped strappy tops that can be found in Yeezy Season 6. If so, it’s a testament to just how distractingly NSFW the collection’s campaign was that even a tail could get lost in the mix.
