A Definitive Guide to How Kim Kardashian Really Feels About Each of Her Family Members
She could definitely do without “Kylie’s ‘I don’t care, I know what I’m doing’ thing.”
With the hashtag “#keepingupwithTHEkardashian” emblazoned across Kim Kardashian‘s two new Vogue India covers, the cover story was bound to spark some family competition—or at least give Kardashian the opportunity to dish even more dirt on her family, which even she seems surprised there’s always an endless of.
“Every time I think, ‘You guys, we filmed four seasons, what else can we talk about, what else can we do? something else happens. Khloé comes in and says, ‘I’m getting married, and in a week,'” she said upon reflecting on Keeping Up with the Kardashians‘ 10-year tenure in the story’s preview.
The success of the show, which Kardashian says she didn’t expect to continue after a first or second season, is of course in large part to the her powerhouse momager Kris Jenner. “As things were happening, my mom and I were so excited. We didn’t even know what we were starting, but we knew we were in it together. We definitely made so many mistakes. At first, we would be involved in anything. But it helped us work our way up to now, to launching a beauty brand completely by myself, and funding it all,” she said.
When asked if she could make an “Uber Kardashian” with the best quality from each her family members, there turned out to be more praise for the rest of her family members. She admires, for example, “Khloé’s I-don’t-give-a-f— attitude,” as well as her brother Rob’s sense of humor.
Kendall Jenner Gets Real: “I’m Weird, I Love My Tits Being Out”:
Things of course get much more real, though, when asked about the quality she could take away from each of her family members—like “Kylie’s ‘I don’t care, I know what I’m doing’ thing.” You can probably guess who’s the only one that Kardashian considers to be “perfect,” but if not, here’s a handy field to how Kardashian says she really feels about each.
Kylie Jenner
Best quality: “Kylie’s ability to just go for it and not care what other people’s opinions are.” Worst quality: “Kylie’s ‘I don’t care, I know what I’m doing’ thing.”
A Celebration of Kylie Jenner’s 20 Years of Not Letting the Critics Get Her Down
In 2011, Tyga and Kylie first met at Kendall Jenner’s Sweet Sixteen, where the rapper performed. Kylie was 14 at the time. Three years later, Tyga ended his engagement with Blac Chyna, the mother of his son King Cairo—and shortly after, began appearing on Kylie’s Instagram, prompting rumors they were dating. Both Kylie and Tyga denied the relationship—though it was the subject of a line in Drake’s “6 p.m. in New York” and the topic of some scathing words from Amber Rose—until the following year, when Kanye West let slip on The Breakfast Club. The gist of the controversy: Kylie and Tyga’s wide age gap, and the appearance that he left Blac Chyna for a teenager.
After Kylie launched Kylie Cosmetics with her eponymous lip kits, some beauty bloggers noted distinct similarities to ColourPop’s far more affordable range; parent company Seed Cosmetics later confirmed it manufactured both ColourPop and Kylie Cosmetics.
Kylie Cosmetics has been at the center of many of its founder’s controversies over the past two years—both because of the beauty brand itself, and because it has presented Kylie with a massive platform. For the brand’s Holiday 2016 campaign, which debuted in September, it released an image of gold-painted fingers framing a deep, cranberry lip—mirroring almost exactly an image by makeup artist Vlada Haggerty. Haggerty filed a suit against Kylie Cosmetics, but the feud was resolved before any court battle began.
Considering the previous Tyga drama, someone might have advised Kylie that naming one of her new blushes “Barely Legal” might not be the best plan.
Earlier this year, Kylie, one of the celebrity faces of Puma (like Rihanna, and like The Weeknd), appeared in a campaign in which she was depicted mid-running stride, in one image, and springing up into the air as if on a trampoline, in another. Just as her sister Kendall before her was criticized for appearing in a ballet-themed Vogue España editorial, Kylie was criticized for ostensibly taking the place of a real athlete in the campaign. Complaints about her running form—her feet not flexed properly, her knees not at the right angle—abounded, and then subsided in time for Kylie to appear in another campaign several months later.
Just after her brother Rob Kardashian was embroiled in his own controversy with ex-girlfriend Blac Chyna (the same Blac Chyna who was once engaged to Tyga), Kylie tapped her brother, sock entrepreneur and founder of Arthur George, to collaborate with Kylie Cosmetics. Many questioned the timing of the collaboration, as it was unveiled just after Rob had unleashed an Instagram tirade, including several graphic photos (that Chyna had not consented to be released), against his former girlfriend.
In the midst of building a beauty empire, Kylie also manages to balance collaborating with her elder sister Kendall on their Kendall + Kylie clothing label. As part of the brand’s most recent drop, the sisters debuted new “vintage” merch, featuring iconic images of the likes of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G. with Kendall and Kylie’s own likenesses splashed over the front. The families and estates of the late rappers, as well as other artists featured in the collection, immediately struck back—and the tees were promptly pulled from Kendall + Kylie. (Since then, Kendall + Kylie has been struck by several lawsuits.)

See Cindy Crawford, Yolanda Hadid, Kris Jenner, and More Being Proud Moms of Model Children at Fashion Week
Yolanda Hadid got to root on not just one but both of her supermodel daughters at the Prabal Gurung show, where both Bella and Gigi Hadid walked.
But she supported even more of her children for Tommy Hilfiger’s spring 2018 presentation in London, as Gigi opened the show, trailed by her sister Bella and brother Anwar Hadid.
As one of the faces of Fendi, Kendall Jenner has become a fixture on the Italian luxury house’s runway, and her mom Kris Jenner didn’t miss the opportunity to support her during Milan Fashion Week—even as rumors swirled about her other daughter Kylie’s pregnancy.
She also looked like the vision of a proud mom at Versace—fittingly, a show that celebrated supermodels-turned-moms like Cindy Crawford and Helena Christensen, and even had a metaphoric baton pass between the generations as Crawford’s daughter Kaia Gerber also walked in it.
The Dennis Basso show was also a family affair as Lisa Rinna showed up to watch her daughter Amelia Gray model in it with her husband Harry Hamlin and their daughter Delilah Belle Hamlin.
Helena Christensen had more than one family member to support at the Calvin Klein show. She watched front row as both her son Mingus Reed and her nephew Oliver Sonne walked in the show.
19-year-old Sofia Richie has spoken out about how tight-knit her family is before, telling Complex, “As a family we all just got through everything together. We’re all really supportive of each other.” Lionel Richie confirmed that when he showed up at Jeremy Scott’s spring 2018 presentation to watch his model daughter.
Camille Grammer didn’t miss her daughter’s runway debut for New York designer Malan Breton and, this year, she also bonded with her model daughter Mason while making the rounds together at Fashion Week parties.
Kate Moss had a special mother-daughter moment during London Fashion Week when she brought her 14-year-old daughter Lila Grace Moss Hack, a budding model, to Topshop’s show. “She’s really good,” Moss has said of her daughter’s runway walk.
Cindy Crawford didn’t watch her daughter Kaia Gerber make her Versace debut from the front row. Instead the supermodel watched from backstage, right before she closed out the show with her supermodel ’90s peers like Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Carla Bruni, and Helena Christensen.
Crawford has on proud mom duty throughout Fashion Month, traveling with her daughter Kaia from New York to Milan and, most recently, Paris. “You know what, it’s been really fun for me to see my kids get their feet wet in the fabulous world of fashion,” Crawford recently told Vanity Fair.
No doubt this past Fashion Month has been a major bonding experience for Cindy Crawford and her daughter Kaia Gerber. “Now we talk shop,” Crawford told Vanity Fair of her evolving relationship with her kids. “They’re like, ‘Mom, wow, this is hard. I have a 5 A.M. call,’ and I’m like yeah, it sucks. All of sudden they have a whole new appreciation for what I spent the last 30 years of my life doing.”
Cindy Crawford and her daughter Kaia Gerber completed the grand finale of their bonding experience that was Fashion Month when Crawford not only watched Gerber open Chanel, but reunited with Karl Lagerfeld 20 years after she was one of the house’s catwalk regulars, all while posting Boomerang after Boomerang.
