Justin & Hailey Bieber’s Secret Reality Show Is Definitely Not ‘Britney & Kevin: Chaotic’
With little else to do in lockdown, Justin and Hailey Bieber have spent their time filming a secret reality show. News of the very existence of the project was only made public when the first episode was uploaded to Facebook Watch today at noon. With GoPro cameras stationed around the Bieber manor, the show purports to give unprecedented access into the couple’s marriage. Of course, when we think of a high-profile pop star relationship, cinéma vérité reality shows, and intimate self-shot footage, we can’t help but think of one thing: the cultural relic that is Britney & Kevin: Chaotic.
The hastily produced 2005 UPN series chronicled the early days of Britney Spears and Kevin Federline’s brief marriage, relying heavily on their own self-shot home footage. In the times before Instagram Live, the very idea was considered scandalous in and of itself. Though, the show’s popularity quickly waned throughout its run.
There’s precisely zero chaos to be found in the first episode of The Biebers on Watch. In fact, Justin remarks at least twice in the nine minute clip how “peaceful” everything is.
The pair heads out to the lake behind their home in a blue row boat, its seats covered in Drew House stickers, and discuss the first fish Justin ever caught and their lives as a young Christian married couple.
Justin notes that he’s realized through marriage he had issues with jealousy and insecurity to work through. The duo also talks about the break in their relationship, and their eventual whirlwind reunion. Hailey says while she dated a bit, she never tried to fully replace Bieber and had hoped for a reunion.
There are a few moments of intrigue. Hailey talks about how, during the break, she started to hear that Justin had done serious work on self improvement through mutual friends.
“They told me you were working on yourself, and doing really well, and they had been really impressed by how you were living your life, and you were trying to keep to yourself,” she says.
“You weren’t on any, if I’m allowed to say this, you weren’t on any [censored] anymore,” she says. Apparently, she wasn’t quite allowed to say this.
She also talks about dealing with social media commenters reminding her Bieber had dated other girls. We’re sure some thirsty websites will turn this into “Hailey Talks About Selena” headlines, but ultimately Hailey says she’s able to forgive Justin, because we’ve all been forgiven by Jesus in the first place.
“Will you remember that for the rest of your life?” Justin asks Hailey when they’re back on land. She nods affirmatively. We’re not completely sure we can say the same, but if you want to watch 10 minutes of the Biebers in a boat, we’ve all certainly got the time.
