Supermodel Jessica Stam Just Shared the First Photo of Her Newborn Daughter
Congratulations are in order for Jessica Stam!
On Sunday afternoon, the 31-year-old Canadian supermodel officially announced the birth of her first child on Instagram.
Stam posted a photograph of herself, wearing a black and white striped long-sleeve t-shirt underneath denim overalls, holding her baby in her arms. She’s looking down at her daughter, who is clad in a festive ensemble: a red dress with a coordinating bow around her head, white tights, and black Mary Janes (fashion clearly runs in the family). “My Christmas angel,” the model wrote in the caption.
Stam likely gave birth several months ago. In September, she posted a photo of her very pregnant belly, writing, “Longest 9 months of my life #sheready ?”
The supermodel is not a frequent Instagram user. Since announcing her pregnancy on the social media platform in June (with the playful caption, “eating for two!”) she has only posted several images, including one from her baby shower.
Stam was a top model of the 2000s, best known for her angelic, wide-set eyes and doll-like face. Throughout her career, which began when she won a modeling competition in 2002, she appeared in the pages of magazines like W, was on the cover of American Vogue, and walked in countless runway shows. She has appeared in ad campaigns for Armani, Anna Sui, Nina Ricci and more, and has been a muse to the photographer Steven Meisel, the makeup artist Pat McGrath, and the designer Marc Jacobs (Jacobs famously named one of his bag’s most popular styles after her in 2005, calling it “The Stam”).
Stam still models, but is somewhat more selective these days. Perhaps Stam’s daughter will follow in her supermodel mom’s footsteps. After all, she wouldn’t be the first!
