Gwyneth Paltrow is no stranger to speaking her mind, especially when it coms to the more eccentric health and wellness topics like bee sting facials and sex dust moon juice. And while the actress and Goop founder, who recently launched her first issue of Goop magazine with Condé Nast, unique approach on beauty regiments and ideals seem controversial and outlandish at times, her takeaway message of mental wellness, a balanced diet and rocking a “kick-ass red lipstick” are one in the same. In celebration of the Paltrow’s birthday, who turns 45 today, we take a look at the wellness guru’s 5 health and wellness rules to be inspired by.

On Wellness:

“I use organic products, but I get lasers. It’s what makes life interesting, finding the balance between cigarettes and tofu. I’ve probably tried everything. I would be scared to go under the knife, but you know, talk to me when I’m 50. I’ll try anything. Except I won’t do Botox again, because I looked crazy. I looked like Joan Rivers!” – Harper’s Bazaar’s, 2013

On Fitness:

“Every woman can make time [to work out] — every woman — and you can do it with your baby in the room. There have been countless times where I’ve worked out with my kids crawling around all over the place. You just make it work.”- New York Daily News, 2010

On Beauty:

“Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.”

On Health:

“I try to eat organic food when I can, eat local food when I can, and eat as little processed food as possible. But, sometimes you need a bag of Doritos and a beer in an airport. We have to be modern and easy on ourselves as well.” – InStyle, 2016

On Self-Reflection:

“At first I was lying there, like, What am I not doing? What am I not doing? But then I thought, Can you take one hour? It’s not like you’re doing this every day. So I really let everything go. And after, I thought, I wish I could get to this place every day, at least for a little while.” – Self 2016
