Nirvana Naves Takes Her Beauty Cues From the Best
The Dutch model cites Audrey Hepburn, Maya Angelou, and Sade in and around her beauty routine.
Dutch-Guyanese model Nirvana Naves is a girl on the go. In just two seasons, she’s amassed an impressive track record modeling for Lanvin, Chloé, Sacai, Valentino, Alexander McQueen, Prada — and, of course, for Jonathan Anderson, the designer who cast her in her debut, at both his eponymous label and at Loewe. She walked all four major fashion weeks during the Fall 2016 season, crossing back and forth between New York, Paris, Milan, and London. During the off-season, though, she’s a full-time student at university in her home town of Amsterdam, where she takes classes twice a week and spends the rest of the time split between modeling looks and shooting campaigns, and writing her thesis. Yet prior to her start in the industry, Naves confessed that she was something of a neophyte: “I didn’t know anything about fashion. I was like, ‘Oh, what is this all?'” she said of her first show opening for J.W. Anderson. “I didn’t realize that it was such a good designer.” As she’s cultivated a greater understanding and appreciation for the ins and outs of the biz, she’s developed a more nuanced perception of fashion. Her beauty routine, though, sticks to what she knows — and that includes icons like Audrey Hepburn and Maya Angelou.
Your look in three words: Casual, sporty, tomboyish.
Beauty from the inside out: I love healthy fats such as avocado, wild salmon and almond butter.
Exercise regime: I always try to go for a run in the weekend. It clears your mind and you meet a lot of new people while doing so.
Snack of choice: Nachos with loads of guacamole.
Beauty essentials: Nothing too complex; I cleanse and moisturize in the morning and before I go to bed. That’s it!
Favorite hair professional: Jimmy Paul, he’s so kind.
Pharmacy find: I love St. Ives Apricot Scrub, and you can just get that at CVS!
In-tub must-read: The collected poems of Maya Angelou. Normally, I am quite busy so a book is quite difficult to finish.
Spa-cation at: At my best friend’s house. We make it a girls night and watch Audrey Hepburn movies.
Always in your suitcase: Weleda Skin food and sunscreen.
Fragrance of choice: It depends on my mood, but one of my all-time favorites is Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf.
Best advice from mom: Stop touching your face.
Best advice from the pros: Moisturize.
Beauty icons: Sade. She’s everything.
