Channing Barnett, 33, New York City My skincare routine entails EltaMD Deep Pore Cleanser or Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser; Chantecaille Nano Gold Firming Treatment and Nano Gold Energizing Eye Cream; Barnett Dermatology Anti-Aging Cream or TransA 0.025% Cream (created with my father, also a dermatologist); Aquaphor ointment on my eyelids; EltaMD or Anthelios sunscreen. My in-office maintenance includes Botox in my forehead and between my eyebrows about twice a year. The biggest waste of money is nonablative fractionated laser treatment. The results don’t live up to the hype. There are other procedures that address the same issues (fine lines, sun damage, pigmentation, scarring), cost less, and require fewer sessions. I recommend TCA peels or electrosurgery. I attribute my good skin to genetics, staying out of the sun, and moisturizer.

Ellen Marmur, 42, New York City My skincare routine entails rinsing my face with water and, if I feel oily, I use Sanítas Lemon Cream Scrub on the sides of my nose and forehead; StriVectin-SD for Sensitive Skin moisturizer and eye cream in the morning and Eraclea eye cream at bedtime; Aveeno sunscreen SPF 15 in winter; Nia24 sunscreen in summer. My in-office maintenance includes Botox or Dysport twice a year between my eyebrows; Restylane or Juvéderm in my cheeks and under my eyes; occasional IPL and Fraxel treatments; TCA 30% chemical peels postpregnancy, for melasma (a skin discoloration). The biggest waste of money is facials. They’re wonderful for relaxation, but they’re a luxury more than a therapy. The most important advice I give patients is don’t perform self-surgery on every little blemish. And simplify: There’s no need for an eight-step daily regimen.

Wendy Roberts, 52, Rancho Mirage, California My skincare routine entails Dove soap for sensitive skin applied with a sonic facial cleansing brush; La Roche- Posay Active C serum; Wendy Roberts Youth Serum; Renova; Anthelios sunscreen. My in-office maintenance includes Botox between my eyebrows and on my forehead three to four times a year; Juvéderm or Perlane in my nasolabial folds and Sculptra midface twice a year; Fraxel Re:Store treatment twice a year. And I administer all of these to myself. The biggest waste of money is microdermabrasion to treat wrinkles. I love it for improving skin texture, but it can’t get rid of lines. I attribute my good skin to always adhering to my skincare regimen, day in, day out, for 20 years. The most important advice I give patients is that the key to natural-looking skin in your 50s is to start in your 20s. Find the best dermatologist in your area.
