Azealia Banks Has Been Holding Herself Hostage in Elon Musk’s House “For Days”

Unfortunately for her, though, Grimes doesn’t seem to be nearly as fascinated as Twitter is with Occupy Elon Musk.

It’s been just over three months since they made their unexpected debut as a couple at the 2018 Met Gala, and yet it still hasn’t sunk in for many that Grimes, the 30-year-old musician, could actually be dating Elon Musk, the billionaire oddball behind Tesla. The circumstances since then haven’t made it much easier for the news to settle, yet this past weekend brought a development somehow even stranger than the fact that Musk has been secretly spending his time teaching a small army of kids to, in his words, “blow shit up.”

On Sunday, it turned out that none other than Azealia Banks has now quite literally entered the picture, and has every intention to stay—at least until Grimes comes through to work on their previously agreed upon collaboration. Until then, you know where to find her, at least according to her claims: “Literally been sitting at Elon Musk’s house alone for days waiting for @grimes to show up and start these sessions,” the 27-year-old singer posted on her Instagram Story, taking care to mention Grimes’s account. “I have no idea when she is coming back. I’m going to wait one more day then I’m going to go home.”

It’s been almost a day now, and we haven’t heard any further developments from Banks—not to mention Grimes or Musk. The latter, who first found relevance outside of the tech sphere by dating Amber Heard, has apparently had much more pressing things to deal with; on Saturday, he announced that short shorts would be “coming soon to Tesla merch,” along with “thigh high socks with pockets for lip liner & cards.” Oddly enough, though, he and Banks, who share a streak for online explosiveness, and whose combined number of noteworthy feuds seems like it would be too high to count, don’t seem to have engaged in any public discourse just yet—though it’s also true that Banks was recently once again suspended from Twitter, her and Musk’s platform of choice.

Banks does, in fact, have a pretty legitimate reason for holding herself hostage. Last month, she announced that she was going to “cancel” her upcoming album, Fantasea II: The Second Wave, and that she would be releasing new music when she felt like it. She still apparently feels like making the track with Grimes, which she teased on Twitter, back when she still had her account, in June, in a tweet that Grimes notably “liked.”

Updated, 4:00pm: Banks, for her part, has not shied from posting in the hours since, addressing the idea that she was “holding her[self] hostage” by clarifying that she he had not only been invited to Musk’s, but that Grimes had been “begging” her to come for “weeks and weeks,” all while telling her that Musk found her attractive. In a series of updates on Instagram, she also said she believes that the couple had ulterior motives for inviting her, which perhaps had more to do with sex or attention. Banks also highlighted several tweets celebrating the entertaining nature of the drama, including one calling for it to be adapted for HBO.

Where, amid all this chaos, is the only possible voice of any reason, Grimes? That’s still somehow TBD—which has, of course, made for even more of a field day on Twitter.
