Venice Film Festival 2020: Tilda Swinton and All the Other Fashion Highlights
Celebrity style just hasn’t been what it used to be before the pandemic began; if there were any remnants, they had to be found in Nobu Malibu’s parking lot. But on Wednesday, the 77th Venice Film Festival suddenly reclaimed the red-carpet throne. First came Tilda Swinton, surfacing like a siren via water taxi in head-to-toe Chanel. (Seizing the photo op, she also paid homage to Chadwick Boseman.) Then came Cate Blanchett, fulfilling her duties as this year’s jury president and then some. The 48 hours that followed have been a stand-out for the pair. On top of reinventing the face mask and accepting a lifetime achievement award, Swinton has showcased her versatility in both pajamas and couture. Blanchett, meanwhile, has been quietly recycling red carpet hits, like an Esteban Cortázar gown last seen on the Carol press tour.
