Birds of a Feather at Thom Browne Spring 2017

by Portia Hunt

Thom Browne Paris Men’s Fashion Week Spring 2017

When the lights went up at the Thom Browne Spring 2017 show, a model wearing a menacing shark mask began to circle the runway as the Jaws theme song set the tone. Meanwhile, its prey — another group of models wearing wetsuits, which looked like actual suits — stood sequestered on a desert island in the middle of the space. Suddenly, they unzipped their corporate cocoons in unison, revealing colorful one-piece bathing suits underneath. Then, a flock of models meant to look like seagulls in feathered suits flapped their arms down the runway. Browne was clearly having some fun with the phrase, “life’s a beach.” And finally, to close the most theatrical show at Paris Fashion Week, the models grabbed a surfboard and proceeded to soak up the sun, (or rather, the camera flash of an aghast audience), unphased by their encroaching predators. Get the full experience, here.
