Raf Simons’s Fall 2018 Menswear Show Was a Drug-Themed Bacchanalia Full of Obscure References
Raf Simons should be crowned as New York Fashion Week’s king of obscure, scandalous references. At his Fall 2018 menswear show, the designer transformed the cover of an out-of-print play by the late Cookie Mueller and Glenn O’Brien called Drugs into a wearable sleeveless hoodie-poncho hybrid with the title brazenly displayed across the chest, fastened patches to scarves, sleeves and pants legs with nods to psychedelic substances like LSD and 2C-B, and screen printed shirts that reference the tale of Christiane F., a 1981 film about a teen drawn to the heroin fueled scene of 1970s Berlin. The spectacle was completed with a spread of wine bottles, charcuterie, bread, flowers and waffles (all of which was edible, except for the flowers, of course) on the stage. Get a closer look here.
