Why Combining Public School Shows Might Work
It was announced Monday that Public School will deviate from the New York Fashion Week calendar by not only showing earlier this season, but also combining its men’s and women’s shows. This July, designers Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow will present “Collection 1,” which will be men’s and women’s spring 2017 and pre-spring 2017. Now that’s a mouthful. They’re not the only ones though mashing things up, though. Brands like Burberry, Gucci, and Vetements have each recently announced similar changes. They might be on to something. A quick glance back at Public School’s Fall 2016 collections revealed that many of the men’s and women’s looks were almost identical. It’s in the brand’s DNA to meld urban androgynous styles, so why not like them share the stage?
