Photo Diary: After Donald J. Trump’s Inauguration Came the Protests

Presidential inaugurations are usually celebratory affairs full of pomp and circumstance, but Donald J. Trump’s on Friday was marred by protesters who took to the streets to voice their anger at the new president’s divisive rhetoric and politics. “This is our statement against the rise of fascism in our country,” said Alex, a young woman from Washington D.C. holding a sign that read “No hate, no racism, no Trump.” They were joined across the District by fervent Trump supporters who had come to observe the exchange of power. On Saturday, hundreds of peaceful marches were planned across the country, most prominently among them a Women’s March in the capital.
