Meet Nicola Formichetti’s Risqué Redheads

by Emilia Petrarca

King Kong Magazine

There’s a new magazine on the scene and it’s lured a handful of high-profile collaborators. For the debut issue of King Kong, the photographer ** Ali Kepenek, its editor in chief, persuaded Nicola Formichetti to come along as a guest fashion director. Inspired by the “raw” and “unfiltered” expression Kepenek found in fashion magazines and culture during the ’90s, the London-based magazine features work by artists, musicians, designers, and film-makers who are uninterested in “placating board members” or “moneymen.” “[It’s] a call to arms to visionaries whose visions are a little too strange for the status quo,” Kepenek said. By his estimation, Formichetti, the creative director of the mega brand Diesel and Lady Gaga‘s former stylist, falls into that category, and he styled a spread for the issue using very little clothing, actually. “I love undressing fashion,” he says. “I remember how I did credits: ‘she used to wear…'”
