Deadheads Come Out to Play at Matiere Spring 2017
Muted, ombre hues — sea blues and dusky peaches, primarily — dominated Matiere’s Spring 2017 presentation during New York Fashion Week: Men’s on Wednesday. Creative director Jake Zeitlin and the label’s founder Scot Shandalove revisited San Francisco, which they describe as the birthplace of the Grateful Dead (Shandalove followed the Dead on tour in the late-’80s), and sought inspiration in the historic district, the Port of San Francisco. This resulted in seaworthy straw hats, sunglasses, and linens, nautical stripes and colors, and loose, billowing silhouettes worthy of a Deadhead. Photographer Driely Vieira went backstage to capture every angle of the California vibes — go behind the scenes, here.
