The Skater Girl Grows Up at Marques’ Almeida Spring 2017

Originally known for their artfully frayed denim pieces, Marques’ Almeida has expanded since 2011 to include romantic, wearable separates and dresses in straightforward prints. Spring 2017 continued that growth, with a collection of psychedelic patterns, brocade fabrics, and lace (and lace up) detailing. Designers Paulo Almeida and Marta Marques won the LVMH prize in 2015, and it’s obvious here. Slip dresses, thick vertical stripes and slouchy pants may read punk, but this collection was highly considered. Photographer Steph Wilson goes backstage, here.
