Keeping Up With Karla: Concrete Jungle
W’s Fashion Market and Accessories Director, Karla Martinez de Salas, is on the hunt for what’s next.

I had always dreamed of going on safari, and for my honeymoon in December, I finally checked it off the bucket list. My husband and I spent two unforgettable weeks, first at the Royal Malewane lodge in South Africa, then at Mombo Camp in Botswana, taking in the unbelievable landscape and wildlife—not to mention the local wines. It was everything I had imagined, and more. And fashion-wise, it brought to mind Franco Rubartelli’s famous image of Veruschka on safari, which, it turns out, jibes well with the spring collections. Of course, you would never wear any of these pieces in the wild, but for the city, they make for the perfect utilitarian uniform.—Karla Martinez de Salas
