Couture Is an Attitude and Fashion Is Garbage at Moschino Fall 2017
“Trash chic” was the theme of Jeremy Scott‘s Fall 2017 Moschino show at Milan Fashion Week on Thursday. And while the designer has made a name for himself with such an aesthetic, he’s never been quite so literal. Dresses fashioned out of cardboard boxes and duct tape, bubble wrap, garbage bags, and even dry cleaner sleeves walked the runway along with prints that “recycled” an array of different styles and cuts. Needless to say, in the midst of what has been an especially politically charged runway season, Scott’s collection was a nod to the wastefulness of industry and its environmental impacts. It was also an homage to the playful imagination of a young designer. As any fashion-obsessed model or editor can attest, playing dress up as a child with whatever materials you had at hand was a natural and frequent occurrence. The designer succinctly summed up all these feelings when he closed the show in a shirt that read, “Couture is an Attitude.”
