Florian Maier-Aichen’s Eye for Abstraction

by Fan Zhong

Florian Maier-Aichen

Florian Maier-Aichen’s stunning overhead shots could be postcards from the heavens, until you notice that each one is awash in hues and surreal details that never occurred to any creator except the German photographer himself. Look long enough, and his landscapes begin to look like abstractions, and his abstractions like landscapes.

An exhibition of new photographs by Florian Maier-Aichen is on view from June 5 to July 25, 2014, at New York’s 303 Gallery, 507 W. 24th Street.
