Dinner In a Volcano and Other Daring Summer Activities
Dinner in an Icelandic volcano? Why not. Camping on sea ice in Antartica? Sure. While these might not be the most luxurious summer travel plans for jet setters accustomed to wifi and room service, they’re actually what Jacada Travel refers to as a “VIP” experience. Perhaps going off the grid is the newest form of luxury. Here are five vacation packages that will make Ibiza seem low-key.
1
In Iceland, Jacada can do helicopter trips to Thrihnukagigur volcano, where you can have a private dinner in the magma chamber. (Don’t worry, the volcano is dormant). After dessert, you also have the option of traveling through a newly built “ice tunnel,” in a nearby glacier.
2
In Siem Reap, couples privately dine at their own Angkor Wat temple equipped with a butler, a single violinist (or traditional Cambodian music, if that feels awkward.)
3
Bypass the treacherous Drake Passage (unrelated to the rapper) with a private jet, of course. Then spend the night camping on the sea ice and swimming in the Antarctic waters, which are warmed by the hot volcanic rocks below. Other guests include penguins, seals, seabirds, dolphins and whales.
4
Take a private sea kayaking exploration around the island of Lokrum to discover the unreachable caves of Croatia. Just don’t get lost.
5
Lastly, you can take a VIP helicopter ride over the dunes of Sossusvlei in Namibia. Pack bug spray.
