Exclusive: FKA Twigs’s Zine For Nike Featuring 12 Unconventional Athletes
“People don’t always see dancers as athletes,” says FKA Twigs. “But we are.” On Wednesday, the 28-year-old mystical R&B singer, songwriter, and dancer with the abs of a UFC fighter, released a digital zine promoting creative and unconventional athletes in partnership with NikeWomen. (The specific peg was the release of the brand’s Spring Zonal Strength Tights, not an activewear line partnership, as had been widely speculated on fashion blogs.) “When Nike reached out to me about collaborating together on this project, I saw it as an opportunity to inspire people who want to use their bodies in a positive way,” the singer continued in a statement. “I cast a group of amazing people who take their physicality seriously and have their own sense of style, in order to push people to be healthy and understand, through any genre of sport, they can be the best versions of themselves.” The zine features 12 different athletes, including krumper and a karate world champion who discovered meditation through martial arts.
