Chiara Ferragni’s Wedding Dresses Explained, by the Blonde Salad Herself
On Saturday, September 1, 2018, Italian blogger and designer Chiara Ferragni married the Italian rapper Federico Leonardo Lucia in an elaborate, multi-day affair in Sicily. For the once-in-a-lifetime occasion, Ferragni worked closely with Dior’s creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, to create not one but two dresses for the ceremony and reception. “Maria Grazia and I have supported each other for a very long time now, and I wanted her to be part of one of the most memorable days in my life,” Ferragni wrote by e-mail the day after her wedding. “She is such an inspiration for me, and I wanted to celebrate our bond too.” Ideating and creating the dresses was a process that took more than six months. “The first time Maria Grazia and I talked, I decided to let her follow her instinct and leave her free to represent my life in these two dresses,” Ferragni added. “I didn’t have a clear picture in my mind, but I know the feeling that I wanted to wear it. I wanted something classic and timeless, to celebrate not only my wedding but love. I like to say that ‘I love to love.'”
Once she finally saw the designs, Ferragni was ecstatic. “The entire set is even better than what I expected,” she explained. “I love the wedding corset and taking pictures in it while getting ready, and the skirt and the veil made it all magical. The details were the final touch: my shoes had ‘J’Adior Chiara’ written on the strap around the ankle. The gown was absolutely stunning, from the body in the same color of my skin to my huge skirt with images of a little lion; Maria Grazia herself redesigned the lion to have a little one to represent my baby, Leone. The most precious detail was the lyrics from ‘Favorisca i Sentimenti,’ the song that Federico wrote for me. I was so happy to see his face when he saw me wearing it for the first time, it was a surprise for him too. After the dinner I changed into a miniskirt, to be more free and ready to dance and have fun at the Ferragnez amusement park and the concert. The wedding theme was Italy’s heritage and Coachella party vibes, and both my dresses celebrated these moments.”
