It’s little surprise that British model Suki Waterhouse’s fashion hit list includes such classic-Anglo labels as Burberry, Alexander McQueen, Issa and Stella McCartney. But just as this 20 year-old is spending her summer globe-trotting, her stylish catalogue of favorites taps into everything from 70’s Italian music to Diane Keaton. Here, our July It Girl reports mid-vacation on her current and longstanding obsessions.
Daily uniform: White John Smedley polo, Burberry skirt, gold hoop earrings and Prada flats with Sandro red leather jacket.
Greatest hits: Alexander McQueen jacket, the first thing I ever bought; a Missoni pinafore style dress; a floor length white Issa gown; one leg leopard print Trip NYC jeans; a one of a kind Stella McCartney dress I bought in an auction when I was 18 and tipsy (I was broke for a while after that!).
Preferred footwear: Brogues, creepers, wedge boots.
Finishing touches: Great Frog (on Carnaby Street) skull gold chain and two blue rings that have sentimental value. Pink tinted Ray Bans.
Nighttime look: I’m keen on a tailored suit at the moment, it really feels powerful and that’s important. I think if it’s all hanging out on a night out you lose your power and get the wrong kind of reaction. I want to stay sexy and in control!
Best recent discovery: Book, Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal? by Jeanette Winterson; music, Beat at Cinecitta (incredible Italian 70’s soundtracks). I’m also obsessed with the US TV show Breaking Bad…what a show!
Favorite stores: Daunt books in Marleybone, the White Company for sheets, Liberty, Maje and Sandro in Hamstead, Shakuhachi online store.
Style pet peeve: Too tight jeans.
Style icons: Pattie Boyd, Diane Keaton, and Leslie Ash in the film Quadrophenia.
Last purchase: I had an ear candling treatment yesterday!
Lusting after: My new Leica film camera, which is waiting at home! I get great joy out of the process from taking pictures with it, developing them, editing and framing. I occasionally put them up on sukialice.com
Favorite haunts: A little rock ‘n’ roll bar called Manchester in Barcelona and Fiona’s restaurant on Kensington Church Street in London.
Summer must-have: SPF 50 for your face. I always think I’ve learned my lesson and then end up burnt again!
Next vacation: Now! I’m on the train from a wonderful stay at the Arts hotel in Barcelona to Valencia for the Benicassim festival. Still have Portugal, Ibiza and Croatia to look forward to; school’s out for summer!
