Tommy Hilfiger’s Men’s Fashion Week Show is For Dandy Bros
“We wanted to take iconic styles and translate them in a modern way,” explained Ingo Wilts, Tommy Hilfiger’s menswear director, of their Spring 2017 collection Wednesday afternoon during a presentation as part of New York Fashion Week Men’s. Inspired by classic ’70s collegiate wear, Hilfiger modernized the aesthetic with his use of fabric and construction and showed a lineup featuring a vibrant array of geometric, paisley, and bandana printed separates. “Tommy and I went through the archives and looked at classic styles that we liked, such as the varsity jacket, the rugby shirt, and the polo shirt, then put them together in a new way,” Wilts explained. The most eye-catching pattern? Florals. Which made their way onto board shorts, track jackets, and gym bags. “Our idea was the ‘summer of love.'”
