MEET AN INTERN: Ines Puig Grifoll

Ines is the intern to our market editors, a plum position for a girl with a penchant for both fashion trending and numbers. Meet the 18-year-old double major in art history and economics at Georgetown University.

Don’t you look nice My look is a bit rock n’ chic. I am obsessed with any sort of leather, like this vintage leather shift I found at the Brooklyn Flea. I’m not a very girly girl—I don’t even have my ears pierced!—so I dressed down with my Converse All-Stars.

From there to here I grew up in Barcelona with a bohemian family, and spent the past three years in Switzerland attending an all-girls boarding school. (It was 50 of us living in one house—talk about an infinite closet!) When I was a teenager, I went to Paris to visit my father during fashion week. We went to the restaurant L’Avenue for lunch; it shocked me how classy the fashion industry was, and I thought, “Who are they? I want to be a part of them.”

In a days work The first thing I ever heard Karla [Martinez, W’s Fashion Market and Accessories Director] say was, “I am such a hot mess today!” – so you can imagine how fun my internship has been. I assist Karla with the editors’ blog; she might tell me to look for a great Fall jumpsuit (we love the red Valentino one and the black Lanvin), or I’ll help Lacey [Lennon, W’s Fashion Assistant] organize the looks for upcoming shoots, sorted by models, designers, and look numbers. I’ve also gotten friendly with Giovanna Battaglia; I’m a very big fan of hers.

Current inspirations Jasper Johns, Jackson Pollock, The Little Prince, Pablo Neruda Sonnet XVII, Twiggy, Charlotte Casiraghi, Vanessa Paradis, Mario Vargas Llosa, David Safier, Lenny Kravitz, Maná, Mario Sorrenti, Mark Ronson, Joan Miró, Formentera, Le Marais, Eva Armisen, lavenders.

All that drive and somewhere to go I really like art and fashion, but also numbers, so I’d love to work with creative material but also incorporate business. I live by the quote, “The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.” Since I’m still young, I want to explore different creative fields and live in many different countries, like Argentina or China.
