Put Down the Gavel
What: A benefit and auction for the ICI, aka Independent Curators International.
When: Monday, November 18th
Where: Guests gathered at the historic Cunard Building for cocktails and a preview of the silent auction (powered by Artsy), followed by dinner and more drinks courtesy of Cipriani. Once everyone’s wallets were thoroughly lubricated, the live auction, featuring work donated by the likes of Marina Abramovic, John Baldessari, and Hanna Liden, got rolling.
Who: The evening’s honorees—Dimitris Daskalopoulos, for his visionary collecting, and Eva Barois De Caevel, for the young curator’s work and, surely, also for her charm—and an art world A-list, including Agnes Gund, Richard Armstrong, Nate Lowman, Massimiliano Gioni, RoseLee Goldberg, Nancy Spector, Robert Longo, Lisa Phillips, Svetlana Uspenkaya, and Abramovic, resplendent as always. Plus: David Schwimmer.
Why: Because it’s easier to drop thousands on a Baldessari, as one young collector did after exclaiming repeatedly upon the beauty of the soaring frescoes, in such a gorgeous setting.
