Everything We Know About Mayhem: Lady Gaga’s New Album
Mother Monster is back. On January 27, 2025, Lady Gaga officially announced that her seventh studio album is on the way. It’s name? Mayhem.
The project marks Gaga’s first studio album since 2020’s Chromatica which spawned the single “Stupid Love” and the Ariana Grande duet “Rain on Me.” The album follows Gaga’s silver screen appearance as Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux. Gaga released a companion album, Harlequin, following the film’s theatrical debut.
“The album started as me facing my fear of returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved,” Gaga said in an announcement, saying that writing the album’s songs was like “reassembling a shattered mirror: even if you can’t put the pieces back together perfectly, you can create something beautiful and whole in its own new way.”
From an official release date to confirmed collaborations, here’s everything to know about Mayhem, below.
What will Mayhem sound like?
All signs point to Mayhem having a very pop-heavy sound. Many fans speculate that it may even resemble some of the artist’s early work such as The Fame and The Fame Monster which featured hits like “Just Dance,” “Paparazzi,” and “Bad Romance.”
“It leaps around genre in a way that’s almost corrupt,” Gaga told the Los Angeles Times in December 2024. “And it ends with love. That’s the answer to all the chaos in my life is that I find peace with love.
She continued, “Every song that I wrote, I just kept getting kind of swept away in these different dreams I was having about the past — almost like a recollection of all these bad decisions that I made in my life.”
Who will feature on Mayhem?
So far, the only confirmed collaboration on Mayhem is Gaga’s duet with Bruno Mars “Die With a Smile” which was released on August 16, 2024. There are murmurs that The Weeknd and Peggy Gou will feature on the album, but it’s entirely possible the project will be short on collaborations.
The album was executive produced by Gaga, her fiancé Michael Polansky, and Andrew Watt. Gaga and Watt produced Mayhem with help from Cirkut and the French DJ Gesaffelstein.
Are there any singles off of Mayhem?
Gaga released the first single off of LG7, “Disease,” on October 25, 2024 which she later followed up with a macabre music video just four days later. “I think a lot about the relationship I have with my own inner demons,” Gaga said of the inspiration behind the song and video. “It’s never been easy for me to face how I get seduced by chaos and turmoil. It makes me feel claustrophobic.”
Gaga’s collaboration with Bruno Mars, “Die With a Smile,” will also feature on the album. The album’s title track and third single, “Mayhem,” is to be released on February 2, 2025 with an accompanying music video that will air during the 2025 Grammy Awards.
Does Mayhem have a tracklist?
The 14-track project does not have a full track list just yet, but features the singles “Disease,” “Die With a Smile,” and “Mayhem.” According to Gaga’s website, the album opens with “Disease” and ends with “Die With a Smile.”
When will Mayhem be released?
