Zoe Kravitz Would Make a Really Great Sorceress, If ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Is Any Indicator

It might not be original canon, but the new Harry Potter spinoff film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them gives some die-hard Hogwarts fans something to look forward to. It’s set about 70 years before the events of the Harry Potter series, documenting Fantastic Beasts textbook writer Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) attempts to record various magical creatures. With an all-star cast including Eddie Redmayne, Ezra Miller, Colin Farrell, Johnny Depp, and up-and-comers like musician-turned-actress Alison Sudol. Actress, musician, and model Zoe Kravitz was added to the cast in August to fill a small role that, by some reports, might get much bigger with the sequel. (Naturally, this being Harry Potter, it won’t be done in one film alone. The original series took eight films to tell, and even then fans weren’t satiated.) Though her role might be small right now, her red carpet presence is anything but — the whole cast was radiant in chiffon, sparkles, and lace, but Kravitz stood out in a gothic-inspired Alexander McQueen dress.

Who: Zoe Kravitz.

When: Thursday, November 10.

Where: The world premiere of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in New York, New York.

What: A black lace Alexander McQueen gown from the Spring 2017 collection with an off-the-shoulder silhouette and statement chandelier earrings and a smattering of cocktail rings.

Why: We don’t know exactly what Kravitz’s role in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them looks like, but we’re sure of one thing: She’d make a great witch. With her gothic-inspired McQueen dress — which, when it appeared on the runway, was also styled with a pair of collarbone-grazing statement earrings — and platinum hair, she looks positively supernatural. She foregoes much else in the way of accessories (on the runway, the dress was paired with a choker), but her dark dress and bright, silvery hair are enough to make a statement. All she’s missing is an animal familiar or a magic wand.
