Forget the Weeknd: Selena Gomez Spends Valentine’s Day with Coach’s Stuart Vevers
Gomez, Drew Barrymore, and Emma Roberts all spent the holiday with Coach for its Fall 2017 show at New York Fashion Week.
It says something about the renaissance Coach has seen under the direction of Stuart Vevers that the brand can not only easily draw front row names ranging from Drew Barrymore to Tavi Gevinson to Selena Gomez, but also get them to cancel their Valentine’s Day plans.
“This!” Gomez said of what she was up to for the holiday, strolling into the show 20 minutes late, sans the Weeknd. Really? “Yeah, I’m going to dinner with the team after this, to celebrate with Stuart,” she added with a laugh.
A cheery, remarkably un-zombielike Barrymore, who immediately wished a “Happy Valentine’s Day!”, had also set aside time for Coach during the day nonetheless—and made it her only show this New York Fashion Week. “I’m like, Nope, all about Coach, going back with my daughters and then going back into hiding,” Barrymore said.

But before her Valentine’s Day dance party with her daughters later that night, the clothes: oversized shearling coats, puffy parkas, motorcycle jacket vests, and more typically bohemian pieces shown amidst a dusty prairie field of tumbleweeds, topped off with giant fur hats and miniature cross-body coin purses that, as Emma Roberts pointed out post-show, would look great at Coachella.
“I’m a purse obsess, and I’m obsessed with the cross-body little coin purses, the doctor bags, the huge totes,” Roberts gushed. The hats, though, not so much. “There are about two hats in the world that I can wear, and those weren’t one of them, but I loved them on the runway,” she said.
As for what she was up to later, Roberts had plans with her mom and “best friend-slash-stylist” to drink wine, eat Italian food, and see the movie Lion—free time she has to spare now that she’s finished up her latest books, short stories by Leopoldine Core and Joan Didion.
“I’m actually starting a book club among my friends that maybe could grow into something more, so that would be cool,” Roberts, a bookworm with the Instagram to prove it, said. Watch out, Emma Watson.
