British It Girl Poppy Delevingne Reps Jonathan Saunders in Los Angeles
Quintessential American designer Diane Von Furstenberg hired a Scotsman to succeed her as creative director of her eponymous brand. Jonathan Saunders, known for his geometric prints and minimalist touch, is a logical choice to succeed her from an aesthetic perspective, and he proved his mettle with his Spring 2017 collection, which showed in New York earlier this year. Now, he’s taking on the opposite coast; on Thursday evening, Lisa Love gathered a clutch of It girls, actresses, and models like Poppy Delevingne, Bella Heathcote, and Rainey Qualley to toast the designer in Los Angeles, welcoming him yet again to American shores. They gathered at Los Angeles’s Chateau Marmont to celebrate, many of them clad in Saunders’s designs for DVF — including Poppy Delevingne, the endlessly chic older sister of model-turned-actress (and Saint Vincent girlfriend) Cara Delevingne, who stood out in a simple silk design topped off with a classic motorcycle jacket.
Who: Poppy Delevingne.
When: Thursday, November 10.
Where: The dinner celebrating Jonathan Saunders, Diane Von Furstenberg’s new creative director, at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, California.
What: A patterned silk Diane Von Furstenberg dress from the Spring 2017 collection, designed by new creative director Jonathan Saunders, with a leather jacket and high ponytail.
Why: It seems fitting that Scottish designer Jonathan Saunders finds his best model at a Los Angeles fete in his countrywoman Poppy Delevingne. She wore the look that closed his Spring 2017 collection, a pieced-together silk dress that pays homage to the wrap dress that carved out DVF’s niche in the industry while updating it at the same time. Saunders embraced breezy silhouettes and subtle patterns with his DVF debut, and this design is no exception. Delevingne adds a bit of a grunge charm to the otherwise quite conservative, even preppy dress by topping it off with a messy high ponytail and a classic black leather biker jacket.
