Kristen Stewart: Donald Trump Was “Really Obsessed With Me”

“He was mad at me a couple years ago, really obsessed with me a couple years ago”

It’s no secret that President Donald Trump loves to express his divisive opinions in 140 characters or less. But before Trump was sharing political thoughts, he was tweeting about celebrity gossip, including Kristen Stewart and her former relationship with Robert Pattinson. In the fall of 2012, President Trump tweeted a series of disparaging remarks about Stewart and the couple’s on-again, off-again relationship. “Robert Pattinson should not take back Kristen Stewart. She cheated on him like a dog & will do it again–just watch. He can do much better,” President Trump tweeted.

It’s something Stewart hadn’t given much thought to until she was asked about it recently at the Sundance Film Festival during an interview with Variety. The 26-year-old actress, who was at the film festival to promote her short film Come Swim, spoke about the tweets Trump, the now President of the United States, directed at her back in 2012. “He was mad at me a couple years ago, really obsessed with me a couple years ago, which is f**king crazy,” Stewart told a reporter, only hours after his inauguration on Friday. “At that point, he was just, like, a reality star. I had no reference. It wasn’t like really a thing. But in retrospect, somebody reminded me of that and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re right!'”

The actress concluded by looking at the camera and offering a sarcastic hello to Trump. “He’s probably going to tweet about this,” she said with an air of exasperation.

When asked what she would tell young women who might be scared by the current political climate, Stewart offered up words of action. “I would just say be a part of what you believe in, whichever way that is,” she said. “I’m not going to tell anyone how to feel, but I’m pretty sure that we all feel the same way.”

From ‘Twilight’ to Chanel: Kristen Stewart Grows Up

“It shouldn’t be embarrassing because I was so young,” Stewart told Marie Claire UK of photos that remain from her child-star days. And yet, she says, it is.

Stewart’s red carpet looks become more dramatic, and more sophisticated, as she neared the end of her Twilight tenure — often favoring black and dark neutrals. Here, the gilt detailing and two-piece silhouette mark a departure from Stewart’s previous, more classically inspired looks.

In recent years, Stewart has been known to favor menswear-inspired looks, but this 2012 ensemble is one of its first appearances.

Prior to her fashionable friendship with Karl Lagerfeld, Stewart briefly favored Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad.

Since signing on as a face of Chanel, Stewart has started to wear Lagerfeld’s designs to nearly all her premieres and screenings — and the occasional posh luncheon.

Sometimes, the occasion just calls for “Ladies Who Lunch” — and when that look calls, Lagerfeld delivers.

And even after all these years, Stewart knows how to take it back to where it all started. Her look at this year’s Sundance festival nearly echoed her self-professed awkward phase of 15 years prior.
