Kendall Jenner Emerges From Elevator Incident Unscathed, Looking Fresh

Phew.

by Katherine Cusumano

The scene is 15 Leonard Street, the Tribeca address of one Kylie Jenner. It’s just before 7:30 p.m.; Kylie, her sister Kendall, and their friends Hailey Baldwin and Jordyn Woods, all freshly pressed for fashion week, step into the elevator to star their night when: It stalls. (“Our worst nightmare,” Kendall said in a Snapchat Kylie posted while they were still trapped.) At 7:34 p.m. Thursday, the Fire Department of New York received a 911 call to this effect — that the youngest Kardashians were stuck somewhere between Kylie’s penthouse and the street. The FDNY arrived at the apartment just minutes later, and the whole rescue was completed within half an hour (plenty of time for Kendall and Kylie to snap the whole thing). When the four It girls-slash-models-slash-entrepreneurs finally emerged (“civilians,” the FDNY called them in a Gothamist interview), they looked fresh as ever, because fashion stops for no elevator.

Who: Kendall Jenner.

When: Thursday, September 8.

Where: Emerging from sister Kylie Jenner’s Tribeca apartment after their elevator stalled.

What: A green velvet slip dress by Nili Lotan with black patent ankle boots and a leather backpack — firefighters visible in the background.

Why: Technology fails, but the slip dress can never err. Jenner gets a jump start on fall dressing in a velvet slip — a fabric that’s already earned our nomination for trend of the season — in a forest green color that may also be a frequent sighting as temperatures dip. (Like many of her stature, Jenner doesn’t seem to have much room for the weather report in her wardrobe.) The seasonless, timeless strappy bralette makes the whole thing just a little bit edgier, a little more nightlife-ready, but what really makes the look pop is the formal backpack. We should all start going hands-free with our accessories choices: utilitarian, chic, and great for lumbar support. Run-ins with the FDNY not included.
