Kanye West Will Not Attend the 2017 Met Gala
Kanye West’s ensemble at the 2017 Met Gala won’t be turning any heads (or inspiring any memes, like last year). The rapper and fashion designer won’t be attending the event for the first time in four years.
Kim Kardashian West, however, will be attending. “Kanye West will not be attending the Met Ball tomorrow,” a source revealed to People{: rel=nofollow}. “Kim will be going solo. He’s still very much enjoying his time off from public events.”
But don’t assume that the decision for Kim to attend without Kanye is indicative of any trouble in the West household. “He’ll be staying back in L.A. with their kids,” the source told People. “Everything is great with him and Kim and he’s supportive of her going solo.”

This will be the first time that Kanye has not attended the Met Gala since 2013 and also the first time that Kim Kardashian will attend the event alone. The couple made their debut together in 2013 (when Kim was pregnant with their daughter North) wearing a figure-hugging, attention-grabbing floral Givenchy gown. In the years following, the Wests have since rocked coordinating looks from Lanvin, Roberto Cavalli, and Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing. This year, Kardashian will be wearing a design from Vivienne Westwood, People reports.
Kanye has remained largely out of the public eye since abruptly canceling the remainder of his Saint Pablo tour last November and subsequently was hospitalized for mental exhaustion. He’s since only stopped out to debut his Yeezy season 5 collection at New York Fashion Week in February and also famously to meet with then-President-elect Donald Trump at Trump Tower in December 2016 — but beyond that, Kanye has been enjoying a life out of the spotlight.
