With a star-studded lineup that included everyone from Carolyn Murphy to Kendall Jenner, manicurist Jin Soon Choi had some great hands to work with backstage at Michael Kors’ Spring 2017 show. But, that’s just another day in the life for the in-demand nail artist, who is one of the friendliest faces you’ll find backstage at Fashion Week.

Here, Choi shares how she stays so down to earth amidst the chaos.

What is your fashion week uniform? I’m fully into sporting a comfy style for fashion week: a comfy sweater from Sandro, Tibi pants, Joe Fresh boyfriend jeans, Dries Van Noten derby shoes.

What are the beauty products you always have with you? I always carry NARS Audacious Lipstick and Dr. Jart BB Cream. And for work, JinSoon Top Coat.

How do you respond when you first see a collection? I immediately use my instinct to determine which nail color and style will go with the collection.

Does your work vary from show to show? The actual process of doing makeup, hair, and nails is very similar among the designers, but the different personalities make the experience totally different from one designer to the next.

What’s your favorite backstage story? My favorite story was when I saw a model crying after the show because the show was so amazing and she was so happy to be a part of it.

What do you love about fashion week? I love seeing editors and old friends. Aside from all of the work, it’s almost like we’re just hanging out and catching up with each other.

Who is your favorite person to run into backstage? Marc Jacobs, he is such a great and inspiring person!

Do you prefer music or no music? I prefer no music because it can be distracting if it is played too loud.

What is your go-to snack or drink? Harmless Harvest Coconut Water and a Fuji apple, they are a regular part of my daily staples.

How do you stay healthy during this crazy time? I try to eat well and get a good night’s rest, although both can be challenging during Fashion Week.
