We were eyeing the younger Fanning sister’s eccentric Marc Jacobs design earlier this week, and now she’s back at the style game again with a toned-down, weekend-ready look. Fanning isn’t often one to opt for a whole lot of color; she usually tends towards ivory and pale pink, and even the blue of this jumpsuit strikes us as quite vibrant. She’s a versatile young fashion plate, Miss Fanning, and she’s giving us a lot to think about lately. At the top of the list: How much chambray is too much chambray? Let’s discuss.

Who: Elle Fanning.

When: Thursday, August 18.

Where: Hosting a dinner for the new collaboration between Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters’s Creatures of the Wind label and the Los Angeles boutique Just One Eye.

What: A chambray jumpsuit by Creatures of the Wind.

Why: It’s just about time to write up the postmortem on the formal jumpsuit trend that has swept the red carpet and gotten all the bright young style stars dressing in grown-up onesies. Still, there’s something effortless about a single garment that swaddles your whole body; all it takes is a little bow at your waist to give it some shape and you’re good to host a part at a cool Los Angeles boutique. Here, Fanning sports a look we think we’ll christen the lazy man’s Canadian tuxedo, a head-to-toe denim chambray look with full, wide legs and enough going on that you don’t even need to accessorize. Just a simple half-up sweep of the hair, an embellished bag for a pop of color (plus, this one looks like it’s got some great patchwork going, and we know how Fanning feels about her patchwork embellishments), and a pair of sandals for some lift. Voilà, an end-of-summer look that doubles as proof of your commitment to good denim. After all, the Creatures and Just One Eye collaboration is centered on a pair of customizable jeans.
