Dakota Johnson Embraces Her Romantic Side, Just in Time for ’50 Shades Darker’

On Tuesday evening, actress Dakota Johnson guest-starred on Jimmy Fallon’s late-night show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, in support of her new 50 Shades film, 50 Shades Darker. But, in addition to discussing the new movie, Johnson and Fallon got a bit diverted — towards their shared love of Ford F-150’s. (Johnson’s grandfather apparently recently gifted her a 1995 model.) But no matter — given the number of male models alone who have made Valentine’s Day plans to see Johnson’s latest with Jamie Dornan, it’s already poised for success. It’s no coincidence that the latest installment in the series, which was originally devised as a Twilight fan fiction, is premiering during Valentine’s Day weekend. Likewise, it’s no coincidence that Johnson’s talk-show look was a dreamy, vivid red Gucci look. The actress is embracing her romantic side, just in time for the ’50 Shades’ Valentine’s premiere.

What: A red silk chiffon gown by Gucci with a tiered skirt, a pin-tucked bodice, long sleeves, a black belt with bow-tie detail, and black platform sandals by Frances Valentine.

Why: “Why do I always cry when I come on this show?” Johnson wondered aloud as tears of laughter streamed down her face during her latest Fallon appearance. Another recurring theme is Johnson’s penchant for Gucci — which isn’t limited to her television appearances alone. Here, she selects a fiery red Gucci gown with a tiered skirt and those ubiquitous platform sandals. (Earlier in the day, she was spotted in a luxe fur coat with a tiger on the back, also by the brand.) It’s ultra-feminine and romantic, with a demure edge — high neck, long sleeves — and Johnson nails it, right down to the details. Her nails are a deep cabernet. (50 shades of red, anyone?)
